There is definitely a reason to be cheerful when a women’s beauty magazine is prepared to venture into unknown territory by being genuinely real. This means real models, real content, no pressure and definitely no put-downs to make you aspire to be something impossible. Beautiful magazine, “for real women with brains” aims to challenge the media and the constant influx of false advertising and unreal messages that bombard our televisions, magazines and newspapers. Beautiful only uses models size 12 and over and does not photoshop or alter images to make them look thinner. They do not have advertising which aims to lower self-esteem in order to encourage purchasing of products. They also never publish any advice or tips on dieting. Editor Sue Thomason says the magazine is for real women, which means “ALL women, thin, fat, petite, athletic, curvy”. So next time you want to pick up a glossy for some entertainment, fashion advice, or an escape from the world, why not try something different, positive and real.
